Carlisle Castle has been transported back 100 years, to the day before World War One ended.

The all-day living history event, dubbed This Day in 1918, is part of the city's Remembrance programme.

Led by volunteers, it featured a reconstruction of a World War One trench and a full-size replica tank.

This Day in 1918 is one of four special events taking place today under the Carlisle Remembers banner.

There was also a parade and drills, featuring members of the Cumbria Army Cadet Force.

Hundreds of people lined the path up to Carlisle Castle ahead of its launch at 11am - following a two-minute silence.

Jessica Riddle, the Mayor of Carlisle, officially opened the event, while a lone bugler played the Last Post.

Throughout the day, thousands of people - including families, couples and ex-service personnel - have attended.

At the end of the day, a torch-lit procession will make its way from the Castle to the Market Square.

Here the terms of the Armistice will be read out from the steps of the Old Town Hall by the mayor.

To close the day, a Festival of Remembrance will take place at The Sands Centre.

The event, featuring songs and music from the era, is sold out.
