THE family of a retired police dog are hoping to boost funds for pooch pensioners after their dog fell ill and was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure.

Tyler, a Collie Retriever Cross, lives with his family at Hutton Roof, near Penrith.

He is a best friend of the Robinson family including Sophie, 14, Max, 11 and Emily, nine.

His owner, Rachel Robinson, said: “A couple of weeks ago I got a call to say Tyler had collapsed in the garden.

I rushed home and I’d never seen a dog so poorly.”

Tests confirmed that Tyler had chronic kidney failure.

Rachel said: “This has been the hardest few weeks and so heartbreaking to learn that there is nothing you can do to fix your best pal. Tyler is a dog like no other and everyone who meets him comments on his gentle giant approach. He truly is a one in a million dog.”

The family has launched its own go fund me page to help Tyler and other retired police dogs like him.
