A FAMILY is offering a £1,000 reward after their pet dog was attacked in Raffles, Carlisle.

Bubba, who belongs to Stephen and Marie Vevers, was playing outside his home when he was attacked on Sunday morning on Mardale Road.

Mr Vevers told The Cumberland News: “We are heartbroken.

“The vets say Bubba - a Staffordshire bull terrier - was attacked by another dog.

“His back legs have been mauled with teeth marks and he has several lacerations on his back.

“It happened on our front at about 11.15am.

“I was putting rubbish in our bin and our dog followed me out, I never noticed him as we park our car on our drive, he must have gone around the opposite way.

“I came back in the house and my wife Marie heard banging on the door.

“Bubba bless him was headbutting the door to get back in, blood everywhere, he needed emergency medical assistance.”

Mr and Mrs Vevers, who have had Bubba since he was eight weeks old, took him to Capontree vets in Brampton.

Mr Vevers, who is a popular Elvis impersonator in Cumbria, said: “They responded right away and stapled his wounds and gave us medication and bandaged him up. He was in severe pain and stressed panting uncontrollably.

“We took Bubba for a second visit to our own vets Vets4Pets on Scotland Road in Carlisle, who were horrified at his injuries.

“He is receiving ongoing treatment and is in total shock. He has been heavily sedated.

“I hope this doesn’t change his personality. He isn’t even barking at the postman now.”

Bubba was due back at the vets yesterday for a check-up.

Mr Vevers, also known as Stevie Vegas, has not reported the attack to the police.

He said: “Surely some dog lover will come forward with information. He’s our baby.”
