THE owners of Penrith Golf Course have said they're devastated after thieves stole cash and tools during an overnight theft.

Martin Allinson, owner and partner of the business with his brother Tony, discovered the break-in shortly after arriving to open up the golf course, based on Salkeld Road, on Sunday morning.

The thieves trashed the office after breaking in through the window.

Since posting details of the theft on social media, Martin and Tony have received an outpouring of support from across Cumbria.

Martin told the News & Star: "Tony and I would like to thank all of concerned customers for their messages of support.

"The break-in happened at 4.57am, and if anyone saw anything suspicious in and around the area on Sunday morning, then please contact the police with any details you may have.

"The criminals have used some reasonably heavy gear to break through the block walls probably a portable battery operated hammer gun.

"We are devastated that this has happened. Among the items stolen was a quantity of cash, a boxed set of steel drills, and a very unique wooden box measuring 8" by 5" by 2"."

Police are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

A Cumbria Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 5.39am on Sunday, October 14, to a report of a burglary at Penrith Golf Centre. Cash and tools were taken.

"Officers are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
