Flood warnings and alerts remain in force this morning along the entire stretch of Cumbria's coastline.

They were issued yesterday afternoon by the Environment Agency.

A warning - the second highest level of alert - covers the coastline from St Bees Head to Millom, along the coast from North Head to Haverigg.

High tide is expected at about midday, with tides expected to be at their highest two hours either side of that time.

The EA said Braystones Beach was likely to be affected and the gates at Ravenglass were closed.

"The water level for this high tide is below the flood warning level but strong winds and waves may cause tidal spray, onshore flooding to roads and some properties along the coast may be affected," said the agency. "People are advised to take care in coastal areas and take action as needed.

"We currently forecast that the high tide at 12.25am (tonight) will be above the flood warning level."

Further north a flood alert remains in place between Gretna and Silloth. Port Carlisle, the EA said, was likely to be affected and the gates at Skinburness were closed. High tide is expected along that stretch at 12.45pm today and high tide at 1am tonight is also expected to be above flood alert level.

Another alert covers Silloth to St Bees and the gates were closed at Well Lane. High tide is expected at about 12.20pm today.

The alert states: "People are advised to take care in coastal areas. We currently forecast that the high tide at 12.35am on October 10 will also be above the flood alert level."
