Two men, two women and a 15-year-old boy have been arrested and drugs worth £20,000 seized after dawn raids in Carlisle.

Houses at 134 and 136 Borland Avenue, Carlisle, were raided

Ten officers executed warrants at neighbouring addresses in Borland Avenue, Botcherby, after reports of “drugs being dealt openly” from the homes.

The men, aged 21 and 43, and women, 38 and 21, were arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply.

They remained in police custody last night, following the raids involving Carlisle east neighbourhood police team, CID and the Tactical Support Group and a sniffer dog.

Amphetamine and cannabis worth around £20,000 was recovered, together with cash and drugs paraphernalia, a force spokeswoman said.

A neighbour from a nearby house, who asked not to be named, told the News & Star he saw “a lot” of police activity in the street at around 8.30am.

The houses are both owned and managed by Riverside, who said they worked closely with Cumbria police.

“Any of our tenants who try to use their home for any criminal act, will be robustly and swiftly dealt with,” said estate management team leader Tracey Edmondson.

“Using our housing for criminal activity is totally unacceptable and we will take eviction proceedings where appropriate.”

A spokeswoman for Carlisle east neighbourhood police team said they would target anyone whose behaviour “had a negative impact” on the community they were living in.

The latest raid follows a string of warrants in the area over recent months, she said.
