A TRAPPED woman who had to be cut from a car after it collided with a tipper truck on Carlisle’s Castle Way suffered suspected whiplash injuries.

The 50-year-old, who lives in the city, had to be cut free from her Peugeot 306 after it was involved in a collision with a Daf tipper truck.

She was taken to the city's Cumberland Infirmary for observation.

The accident just before 9am and caused rush-hour delays, with part of the road being blocked for more than an hour.

Fire crews were called to help free her. Two appliances and the city’s major rescue vehicle attended the accident.

Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment, a winch and other specialist gear to release her.

As a result of the accident part of the road was blocked until about 10.15am. This caused rush-hour tailbacks in the city centre, particularly around the Hardwicke Circus area.
