MORE than 1,100 women have signed up for the Eden Valley Hospice’s biggest ever fundraising event.
With Carlisle’s second midnight memory walk, the hospice hopes to double the number of women taking part.
Last year 698 took part, despite appalling weather at the start, and raised a total of £66,000.
This year’s event will begin on the stroke of midnight on Friday June 20 at the city’s Rosehill Tesco store and cover six miles through the city.
Alison Hird, fundraising and database administrator, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response.
“The prospect of a midnight walk for ladies only has really caught the imagination of the ladies. It is a tremendous and fun way for people to support the hospice.”
Colin Powell, head of fundraising, said: “With the challenge to raise over £1.8million a year to fund our services, the midnight walk is very important.”
Registration will close when 1,500 women sign up.
The hospice cares for both adult and children from the area with life-limiting illnesses, including cancer, and other conditions.
Registration forms are still available from customer services at Tesco, any of the Hospice shops or online at www.edenvalleyhospice.org.uk.
