Famous faces set for Carlisle's Sands Centre

A HOST of famous faces will appear at Carlisle’s Sands Centre this year from comedians to stars of former TV shows like ‘Allo ‘Allo and Hi-de-Hi!

Said to be as sharp as Sex and the City and as unmissable as Friends, The Vagina Monologues will be performed at the Sands Centre next month.

The show will star Sally Lindsay, who played Shelly in Coronation Street, Sue Holderness, who played Marlene Boyce in Only Fools and Horses, and Tina Gambe, who played factory machinist Sonia Marshall in Coronation Street.

Based on Eve Ensler’s interviews with women, this collection of tales gives voice to a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, brave and thoroughly human stories.

Some of the celebrity world’s most famous women, such as Kate Winslet, Whoopi Goldberg, Sophie Dahl and Jerry Hall, have taken part in the show in New York, Los Angeles and London.

‘Allo ‘Allo – a comedy from the Golden Age – starring Vicki Michelle and Jeffrey Holland – will be performed at the Sands Centre in May.

Mr Holland played the part of Spike in the comedy show Hi-de-Hi!

The most successful black British soul singer of all time, Lemar, will perform at the Sands Centre in March.

The singer is well known for singles such as If There’s Any Justice and It’s Not That Easy and will be appearing at the Carlisle venue on March 16.

From March 30 until April 4 Fame – The Musical is being staged at the Sands Centre. It features Beverley Trotman, who appeared on The X Factor, in the role of teacher Ms Sherman.

Big-name comedians are also on the programme for the Sands Centre.

On February 12 Jimmy Carr is appearing while Ross Noble follows on April 19. Carr’s show is advertised as not for the easily offended, and Noble’s is suitable for over 15s only.

The programme for The Brickyard, in Carlisle, includes South Wales rapper Goldie Lookin’ Chain. The band from Newport will be appearing there on Sunday, March 15.

Whitehaven Civic Hall is also promising laughs on March 15 when Dave Spikey visits.

The co-author and co-star of Phoenix Nights is coming to Whitehaven as part of his Best Medicine stand-up tour.

Have your say

I'm looking forward to seeing Jennifer Ellison in The Vagina Monologues, how very broad minded people are nowadays.

very good lineup for Cumbria so far! How about some big name rock/indie/metal bands coming to the sands though?

Yes, if children that young are wandering the streets alone, they need to be responsible

No, it tarnishes all youngsters with the same brush, when it's just a minority
