Can Carlisle United’s vixens cheer up Simon Cowell?

FIRST there was choirboy Andrew Johnston and dance troupe The Boogie Babes and now Carlisle United’s cheerleaders The Nixon Vixens are hoping to appear in the next series of Britain’s Got Talent.

The dance troupe, from Carlisle, travelled to Glasgow’s SECC in October to audition and are hoping they will get to perform in front of judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan.

The Nixon Vixens, who regularly perform on the pitch at Brunton Park, have recently been fundraising hard to raise cash for new glitzy uniforms and costumes.

Amanda Nixon, who runs the dance school, said: “We bought special costumes for the Britain’s Got Talent auditions and the team feel fantastic in them.

“When they put them on they feel like real professionals. They’re really sparkly.

“We had a great day in Glasgow and we even saw the Little Spoon Man from the X-Factor.”

Since singing sensation Andrew Johnston shot to fame on Britain’s Got Talent he has sold 100,000 copies of his album One Voice.

His achievement was recognised on GMTV when he received a gold disc from presenter Penny Smith.

Andrew, who was head chorister at Carlisle Cathedral, was catapulted into the public spotlight after his appearance on the ITV1 show.

He didn’t win the competition but was signed up by music mogul Simon Cowell and he has now toured the country doing live gigs as well as making One Voice.

The album, recorded straight after the Britain’s Got Talent Tour ended, includes the song Pie Jesu, for which Andrew is best known.

The Nixon Vixens, who have performed on national television, have built up a real following among the United faithful since they started providing the half-time entertainment at the Warwick Road stadium.

Their star is 12-year-old Caldew School pupil Kieran Duncan, the only male member of the cheerleading squad. He has been dancing since he was aged one and has appeared on Sky News.

Last season, the squad got a soaking when the sprinklers came on during their routine.

Do you welcome the return of mischevious schoolboy Just William to TV?

Yes, it's all good, clean fun (apart from the mud)

No, he's a bit last century. His 'antics' would be called vandalism today
