Keswick to Windermere is one of Europe's best drives
Last updated at 13:47, Thursday, 11 December 2008
A drive through some of the Lake District’s finest scenery, on the A591 between Keswick and Windermere, has been named one of Europe’s best.
Car rental firm Alamo has placed the Lake District in their top three Euro routes, describing it as an opportunity to “meander through the hills, lakes and valleys and discover the charm of this beautiful part of the UK”.
The top routes in the Alamo Rent A Car list are the roads from Pula to Dalmatia along the Adriatic coast of Croatia, and the road from Rzeszow to Zamosc in Poland, with its historic towns and cities.
Alamo Rent A Car is celebrating its 20th anniversary in Europe and, to mark the occasion, experts at the car rental specialist have put together their pick of the 20 best driving trips in Europe.
Marketing director Amy Dorrington said: “Renting a car on holiday is the best way to explore at your own pace and to your own itinerary.
“Europe has so much to offer whether it’s mountains and lakes, sun, sea and sand or city culture – it’s all within comfortable driving distance.”
Madeira, the Amalfi Coast of Italy, the French Alps and Monte Carlo all figure in the top 20.
