Beyonce dancers teaching city kids

STREET dancers, who have worked with stars like Beyonce and Kelly Rowland, came to Carlisle to put kids through some frenzied hip hop dance routines.
Youngsters from the city’s Razzmataz Theatre School, run by Denise Gosney, took part in a Into the Hoods workshop, based on the West End musical on Sunday.
The show is based on a fusion of fairy tales, groovy tunes and wicked dance moves.
Denise said: “Performing arts and dance is a bit like hair and beauty – it’s always changing and we like to keep up to date with the latest trends.
“Usually to do that we have to go to London but we feel that more people benefit when the dancers can come to us.
“These guys really have got their fingers on the pulse. Two of them are original self-taught street dancers – one from Kenya and one from the Philippines. They have lots of versatile styles including freestyle, braking and locking. The workshops they took part in were choreographed from the show.
“It was really inspirational – a lot of fun.”
The kids were split into two groups – under 12 and over 12 – and they spent the afternoon working on the routines until 5pm when their parents were called back in to watch.
About 50 kids from Razzmataz schools in Carlisle, Penrith, Whitehaven, Dumfries and Durham took part in the workshop.
At the end of the session they were all awarded certificates and were given half an hour to ask the dancers questions.
