Fifteen intrepid boys and girls attempted the mammoth trek from Carlisle to the Lancashire border and an impressive 10 finished it – with an hour and a half to spare.

The group, from the Ayers Explorer Scout Unit in Carlisle, were raising cash for their own funds and also for the Eden Valley Hospice.

The challenge took on a extra bit of spice when it was revealed their Scout leader Eddie Ward attempted it 11 years ago and gave up at Kendal.

He said: “I’m very proud of them.

“It’s a fantastic achievement.

“They set off from Botchergate at 9am and got there at 7.30am the next morning.

“Ten of them went the full distance, which is amazing,” said Eddie.

“There were some very tired limbs afterwards.”

The group have raised about £1,800 so far and there will be more donations to come.
