A drunken vandal daubed more than 70 cars, homes and businesses in Carlisle with paint because he wanted to be arrested.
Shane Ronald Moore, 20, confessed he wished to be locked up when he was caught by police covered in white gloss after causing damage costing more than £10,000.
Carlisle Magistrates’ Court heard Moore, of Montreal Street in Currock, went out armed with paint and a brush and targeted buildings and vehicles in and around London Road.
He even painted his own initials on some of the property after embarking on the vandalism spree while drunk.
Residents in areas including St Nicholas Street, Fusehill Street and Close Street were left counting the cost after waking on July 30 to find Moore had struck overnight.
Moore, appearing at court yesterday, admitted 17 charges of causing criminal damage to cars and buildings.
He asked for another 56 similar offences to be taken into account when he is sentenced.
Becky McGregor, prosecuting, told the court there were a large number of incidents and some statements and compensation claims still had to be obtained by police.
She said Moore had “acted in a ridiculous fashion with a tin of paint while drunk”.
Moore was stopped by police in Blackwell Road at about 2am. His clothes and hands were covered in white paint and he told police he had done the damage to get arrested.
Magistrates said the case would be sent to Carlisle Crown Court as the total amount of damage was so high.
He was bailed on condition he remain on a curfew and be electronically tagged.
The case will next be heard on September 26.
