A MAN caught carrying a lock knife in a Carlisle park has been given a 12-month community order by city magistrates.
David Macmillan, 37, of Oswald Street, off London Road, Carlisle, was caught carrying the knife through Melbourne Park on July 23.
He was stopped and searched by police after a member of the public said he was acting suspiciously.
Macmillan pleaded guilty to possessing the knife in a public place when he appeared in court on Thursday.
In mitigation solicitor Malcolm Dodds said: “My client had been using the knife for work earlier in the day and had forgotten about it.”
He was given a 12-month community order with a 12-month supervision requirement and a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement.
The magistrates also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the knife and he was ordered to pay court costs.
