Lip-reading courses are launched

NEW lip-reading classes are being launched in north and west Cumbria to help those with hearing problems.

Free courses are being held in Carlisle and Maryport by the Catholic Caring Services, a charity supporting deaf and hard of hearing people.

It already runs a support centre in Carlisle and holds drop-in sessions across Cumbria.

Now it is expanding the support it offers after securing funding to launch the classes next week.

In Carlisle the 10-week evening course will start on Tuesday, September 9, at the hearing centre in Cecil Street, from 6-8pm.

The same course will also be run in west Cumbria, starting on Wednesday, September 3, at Ewanrigg Community Centre in Maryport, also from 6-8pm.

The classes are particularly aimed at older people.

Has the snow and ice spoiled your day?

Yes. The roads and pavements are dangerous and the weather has caused havoc.

No. It isn't that bad and I can't see what all the fuss is about.
