Rescue on Helvellyn

MOUNTAIN rescuers spent nearly five hours rescuing a 44-year-old man from a notorious ridge in the Lake District.

The west Cumbrian man was on Helvellyn’s Striding Edge when he fell 50ft yesterday lunchtime.

Fifteen members of Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team stretchered the man down the fell to the air ambulance.

He is not thought to have suffered serious injuries in the fall, which happened in poor weather conditions.
