TOMORROW’S Moss Bay Carnival, revived in Workington after an absence of eight years, promises to be one of the best yet, organisers said yesterday.
Alyson Hodgson, one of the event organisers, said: “We are working hard to make sure everything comes together this weekend and there is a lot to do, but it will be worth it to see the children’s smiling faces.
“There isn’t much entertainment for children in this area so we decided that it would be good to get the carnival back up and running.
“The community spirit in Moss Bay is immense and whenever something is put on then the whole community comes together.”
Nine floats have been entered in the carnival, which will start at The Lonning, next to the Workington Zebras rugby ground on Annie Pit Lane.
Judging will take place between 12.30pm and 1pm.
Moss Bay councillor Barbara Cannon, Workington mayor Bill Bacon, Stella Kent and an Age Concern member will decide on the winners before the procession leaves The Lonning at 1.30pm.
Cheerleaders, decorated prams and people in fancy dress will also take part in the parade along Mossbay Road, Church Street, Salisbury Street, Casson Road, Mossbay Road, Moorbanks Road, Cusack Crescent, Iredale Crescent, Cain Street, Mossbay Road, finishing back at The Lonning.
