24-hour walk for Explorers

TEENAGERS from the Ayers Explorer Scout Unit in Carlisle are limbering up for a 24-hour endurance walk.
They will make their way from the city centre to the county borders, with any sponsorship money they collect split between Eden Valley Hospice and the unit.
The Ayers Explorers were initially trying to raise money to pay for their own activities but the kind-hearted scouts decided they also wanted their efforts to make a difference to others.
The Scouts were volunteer car park marshals at the hospice’s recent midnight walk and leader Eddie Ward is proud his troop wants to offer its support again.
The 60-mile walk is set to be gruelling but Mr Ward says his scouts are in good shape and will be able to get in plenty of practice over the coming months.
Colin Powell, head of fundraising at Eden Valley Hospice, said: “We are very grateful for the support given by the Explorer Scouts at the Midnight Walk each year and are pleased that they have chosen to support the hospice along side their own fundraising.”
The walk is on Saturday October 11. The scouts can be sponsored online at www.sponsor-me.org/ayers.
