The family of a Workington teenager who fractured his skull after falling from the roof of a leisure centre have warned other youngsters not to climb on the roof.
Daniel Porter, 14, of Eskdale Crescent, Moorclose, is in the intensive care unit of Newcastle General.
He fractured his skull, broke his collar, cheek and femur bones after falling through a skylight at Moorclose Sports centre on Thursday.
Alison, Daniel’s mum, told the News & Star yesterday: “The doctors have cut his ventilation down. They are waiting for him to come round. The top of his femur has snapped. They have put a metal plate and screw on the top of it – that will be there for ever.
“He had a fractured skull. They put a bolt in his head because the pressure was building up.
“I don’t want to see another child fall through the roof. He was playing football with three of his friends.
“His friends tried to grab him before he fell.
“We want to put out a warning to other children not to climb onto the roof. Parents should keep their children from climbing up there or they could be in the same position as us.”
Richard, Daniel’s dad, said: “It should have danger signs nearby.”
A spokesperson from Allerdale Council, which owns the building, said a health and safety investigation has been launched.
