A CELEBRATION day for 3,000 Girl Guides is to take place in Keswick on September 5, 2009 to mark the movement’s centenary.
Girls aged from five to 25 will meet at Keswick School and in the Rawnsley Centre to take part in themed activities prior to assembling at Crow Park in the evening for a closing ceremony.
In a letter to Keswick Town Council, Centenary Champion Debbie Keighley says it is intended to make it a day of celebration of the last 100 years and an opportunity to look forward to the next 100.
“We hope this will be a very special day for the girls, and something they will remember fondly for the rest of their lives,” she said.
Keswick has been chosen to host the ceremony because it is at the centre of the girl guiding county and the lakes and mountains will provide an inspirational setting.
Events link girl guiding values of spiritual and environmental awareness, and service to others, and activities during the days will be on the themes of Our World, Me and My Environment and Let’s Be Creative.
