Olly Murs says a night out in Carlisle is on the cards following his highly-anticipated gig in the city this weekend.

If only we could hold him to it.

The cheeky Troublemaker singer is set to make his first appearance in the county since the 2011 Radio One’s Big Weekend at Carlisle Airport, when he takes to the stage at Brunton Park tomorrow.

Speaking ahead of his performance, which will be only the second night of his tour, he said he couldn’t wait to come back.

“It’s exciting to come up and see the city,” said Olly who hopes his management have put him in a prime location.

“It would be nice to have a night out in Carlisle. That would be fun. Go to a few nightclubs, you never know, bit of a bar crawl.

“I can’t wait to come. Let’s hope the sun is shining. The beers are ready and let’s have a good one.”

The 33-year-old singer, the most successful solo artist to have come from The X Factor, is bringing some of his biggest hits as part of his biggest outdoor tour to date – The Summer Tour 2017. It follows 23 spring shows, including three at London’s O2 arena.

“I wanted to take the arena tour that I did this year out onto the road and I think The Summer Tour for me is a really good opportunity to come out see the fans, go up and down the country and go to different places,” says Olly.

“I haven’t been to Carlisle since I did the Big Weekend so it’s going to be great to go to Carlisle and go that far up in the UK and see the fans. I’m really excited about it. I hope it’s a lovely day out for everyone.

“I think you will be rowdy, I think you guys will come for a good time. I’ve come for a good time and that’s always a good combination.”

Olly has one of the busiest calendars on the showbiz scene as he combines his music and television work. And, with a track record of packing out some of the country’s biggest venues, he admits there is a lure to playing a football ground such as Brunton Park.

He added: “When you do arena tours you go to the same arenas all the time, you do the same shows and go to the same places.

“For me, it gives the opportunity to go out and do big shows at different places.

“It’s nice to be able to bring a concert there and do something in your town. I’m really looking forward to coming.

“I think anyone that knows what I’m like as a performer, they’re buying a ticket to come see me in Carlisle because they know that I will give it everything and it will be a fun show.”

The football-mad star is also looking forward to playing at the home of Carlisle United.

Since shooting to fame in 2009 after appearing on the ITV talent show, Olly has sold millions of singles and travelled the length and breath of the UK as well as performing internationally.

He has recorded four multi-platinum albums and produced four number one singles. Last year saw the release of his fifth explosive album – and fourth successive number one album – 24 HRS, which features Years and Years.

So what can the Carlisle crowd expect? Well, he’s certainly got a bit of a surprise lined up.

Added to that his favourite songs to perform, including the hits Wrapped Up and Dance With Me Tonight and Troublemaker, which will certainly get the crowd moving, the Essex-born star said fans should prepare themselves for a workout.

“Anyone that knows me and has been to a tour before, I always do a medley so there will be a medley.

“It’s going to be epic. All I want to say to any of the fans coming, if you love music from the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties and up to the current day this medley is going to be right up your street. Be prepared for 10 minutes of madness, of craziness,” he said.

“The whole set for me is fun. You think I’m going to be sweating on stage, you lot will be sweating.

“By the end of the gig I hope you’ve had a nice workout.”

Louisa Johnson, winner of The X Factor in 2015 and who has collaborated with Olly on his new single Unpredictable, is supporting him in Carlisle and on a number of his other dates.

Brunton Park is no stranger to live concerts, having hosted Rod Stewart last summer and with other gigs including Elton John in 2007.
