It was a mixed bag of fixtures for Tesco Cumberland sides with league action and ties in four different cup competitions.

And, for once, more games were played than called off - only two having to be postponed because of weather problems - Bransty v Harraby Catholic Club and Parton Utd v Wigton Athletic.

In the Tesco Cumberland Premier Division, Longtown moved equal on points with leaders Netherhall but remain second on goal difference.

Longton enjoyed a 6-1 victory at Workington-based FC 32, for whom Scott Weston hit their consolation goal. For Longtown there was a hat-trick from Phil Storey, two goals from Carl Phillips and one from Craig Thompson.

Aspatria warmed up for Saturday’s top clash against Netherhall with a 9-0 demolition of home side Frizington Whitestar. Malcolm Graham and Mark Irwin both hit hat-tricks with Paul Cutthell, Shaun Law and Richard Hudson also scoring.

In division one Carlisle City have replaced Borough, at the top ahead of the two sides playing each other on Saturday. City were 3-0 winners over Windscale with Mike Holiday John Simpson and Stuart Hill netting.

Whitehaven had it’s own derby as Whitehaven Miners travelled all of 100 yards to face Whitehaven AFC.

And it ended all square as Miners’ Andrew Henshaw and AFC’s Ryan Taylor scored one each.

Wigton Harriers progressed in the JJ’s Club Whitehaven Cup thanks to a solitary strike from the penalty spot by Johnny Studholm which gave them victory over Warwick Wanderers.

Carlisle AFC needed extra time to see of Cockermouth in the ISS Waterers Peter Dawson Benevolent Cup.

Ashley Pattinson hit a brace and Chris Kelleher also hit one and a own goal as Cockermouth hit back through Martin Thompson and M Zaffron. The final score after extra time was 4-2 to Carlisle.

Silloth and St Bees clash for the second time in seven days - this time in the Benevolent Cup - and Silloth progressed with a penalty from Andrew Hinde.

The Smurfit Kappa Conway Cup tie Mirehouse v Cleator Moor Celtic went the way of the home side 5-3. For Mirehouse Carl Lofthouse netted a hat-trick while Jordan Priestly and Callum Killick also scored. Steve Lee, Grant Carson and Ryan Hall scored for Celtic.

Holders Netherhall bounced back with victory in the FOCSA Ken Glover Memorial Shield. David Towers, Craig Johnson and Ben Byers all netted for the holders in their 3-2 victory over Borough from whom David Dustin and Lee McCulough scored.
