Today’s teenagers live in a different world to the one their parents experienced as teens.

Modern adolescents have the added complications of finding their place in an increasingly urbanised and digital focused world.

Recognising this need for outdoor experiences in children and young people, Cumbrian children’s care provider, A Wilderness Way Ltd has utilised a programme of outdoor activities across the region to support its mobile childrens’ home provision.

A Wilderness Way Ltd offers residential care and outdoor experiences for children and young people under 18 who require additional support in their lives, for a range of different issues.

These outdoor experiences aim to offer wilderness experiences with a view to improving:

Self-confidence and self-esteem by achieving challenges which wouldn’t normally be available in everyday life.

Identifying personal strengths and weaknesses by constructively reviewing performance both personally and collaboratively. Giving and receiving feedback can similarly be a big challenge to overcome.

Improving motivation through target setting. By helping students improve their short-term goal setting; slowly more long term goals can be introduced.

Trust in self, peers and staff through positive shared experiences can move things forwards for many young people. This belief in the team develops a trust which enables many to push through, even if a situation becomes challenging.

A Wilderness Way Ltd has been responsible for affecting and improving hundreds of children's’ lives over the last ten years of operations. This is achieved their vision of utilising the outdoors to create opportunities and benefits for all.
