And this weekend’s festival is...

WITH possibly the best line-up of any of the Cumbrian festivals, especially after the early demise of the Forgotten Valley festival, it’s no surprise that this weekend’s Kendal Calling has sold out.

The 4,000 capacity festival, at Grate Farm, has a mega line-up including Dizzee Rascal, Super Furry Animals, Glasvegas, Dan le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip and Mystery Jets.

Cumbrian bands Birds Vs Planes, Digitalis, The Witch and The Robot, Seven Seals and Rob Heron also play.

Birds Vs Planes (until very recently Stars of Track and Field), from Carlisle, are the only Cumbrian band to be playing all the local indie-rock festivals this summer – Wickerman, Kendal Calling and Solfest. These come hot on the heels of a performance at Coniston Water Festival a few weeks ago.

The band – singer Jenny Jones, bassist Blake Johnston guitarists Andrew Creighton and Chris Donnell and drummer Adam Lewis, decided the time had come to change their name as there is also a Canadian band called Stars of Track and Field.

Kendal Calling kick starts today with none other than current number one chart holder Dizzee Rascal.

Closing the festival on Sunday are eccentric, fellow-Mercury Prize-tipped rockers British Sea Power, heading back to their home town after their Kendal Calling debut in 2006.

Solfest tickets, meanwhile, are selling “like hot cakes”. To buy visit www.solwayfestival.co.uk
