WE gathered together in The Captain’s Table, Bigrigg, for our games night in February. Mrs Graham welcomed us to the first meeting of 2010 as the January meeting was cancelled due to the appalling weather.

Cumbria Decorative & Fine Arts Society

THE Festival of Britain and 50s’ style was the subject of the February lecture to the Cumbria Decorative & Fine Arts Society, held at the Hundith Hill Hotel, and it proved a trip down memory lane for a surprising number of members who had visited the Festival.

Cumbria Humanist Group

DOES the Church have a positive contribution to make to education and schools? That question was put to members of Cumbria Humanist Group by the Rev Bert Thomas at our meeting in Morton Community Centre, Carlisle, on February 17. He was introduced by our chair, Iain Paterson, the first humanist member of the Cumbria SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education), of which Rev Thomas is Chair, in addition to his post as Education Director for Carlisle Diocesan adviser on religious education.

MOST of us have experience of the ministrations of the Driving Standards Agency through our need to be licensed to drive a car, but members recently had the opportunity to study the human face of the institution when one of its senior examiners stood before them.

MRS Hartley welcomed members and visitors to the first meeting of 2010. Mrs Stamper was thanked for organising another successful party which was held at Hunday Manor. The next car boot sale will be held on Sunday, February 28, at Egremont.
