Climber dies in Lakes plunge

A walker has died after falling off a Lake District mountain.
It happened yesterday, just after 1pm when the man fell from The Band, above Great Langdale.
The group he was with were off-route due to a navigational error and were found by members of the Langdale and Ambleside and Kendal Mountain Rescue teams on steep ground on the east face of Crinkle Craggs.
The man's injuries were fatal. His body was recovered, and his companions were assisted from the hill in what the LAMRT said was "a protracted and difficult rescue."
A helicopter from RAF Valley made valiant efforts to assist, but cloud base and wind condition meant it was of limited use.
A spokesperson for the LAMRT said: "These few words do little justice to the difficulty of this rescue which involved 19 team members for seven hours, plus Kendal MRT and RAF Valley helicopter."
