Carlisle United boss denies Danny Livesey is moving to Shrewsbury

Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott today denied rumours that Shrewsbury are preparing a shock move for Danny Livesey.

Reports in Shropshire recently linked the big defender – Carlisle’s vice-captain – with the League Two club who are managed by ex-Blues chief Paul Simpson.

But Abbott said he is unaware of any interest in Livesey, who missed the closing months of last season with a knee injury.

And he warned any potential admirers of the centre-half that he had no intention of parting with the influential ex-Bolton man.

“That one wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise because Paul Simpson knows Danny well from his time here,” Abbott said.

“But it would cost them a lot of money if it was the case, because Danny is a player who has done really well for us.

“He has been a big part of the football club’s success over the last couple of years and not one I would readily want to lose.

“I have to say that I’ve not heard anything from Shrewsbury or anyone else about Danny. But as a manager I would probably be the last to find out!”

Abbott expects to tie up a deal for a left-winger next week and News & Star Sport revealed on Thursday that Hartlepool’s out-of-contract Matty Robson was his top target.

He is also hoping to press on with negotiations with Michael Bridges but a deal with the striker, who spent last season on loan with the Cumbrians from Hull, is not understood to be imminent.

United are believed to have offered the frontman a two-year deal but the two parties are still some distance apart on wages.

“Michael is in no rush to do anything – he is looking for the best offer for Michael Bridges,” said Abbott.

“He has other bits and bobs on the table but we are in with a shout. Within a week or 10 days that situation might resolve itself. We have to see what Michael wants to do. He needs to know where he’s going, and we need to know as well.”

Abbott is also expected to meet defender Josh Gowling this weekend to discuss his United future.

Not the best way to attract new talent to the club! Are we being prepared for another season of no new faces and an exodus?

This really is laughable, how is this enticing fans to come and get behind the team next season?? Where is the incentive, gates will be down next season thus worsening our financial situation, ever heard the term "speculate to accumalate"??

We really need some investment fast otherwise we are going to be back in the conference..
