We’ve got to freeze out deadly Dougie

BLUES boss John Ward believes stopping Leeds’ veteran poacher Dougie Freedman is the key to victory in tonight’s televised playoff clash.

The Crystal Palace loan striker, 33, shot down Carlisle with two goals in their last meeting.

“In the last 30 yards he is very clever, a bit like Kevin Phillips,” said Ward. “He’s wily and bright and he came out on top in the last one with a couple of goals.

“We have got to stop his supply because if he’s not on the ball, he’s not a danger.”

Freedman should be partnered in attack by Jermaine Beckford with the former Carlisle loan man having recovered from an ankle injury.

Danny Livesey, meanwhile, is back from suspension for the Blues who have no new injury worries.

“Everyone is looking lively and you can see the anticipation in the team,” said Ward, who could recall club captain Paul Thirlwell for the semi-final first leg.

“The important thing is to come back tonight in a position where it is a one-off game in the second leg on Thursday. Nobody wants to be two or three down with a game to play.” Leeds boss Gary McAllister said he does not expect Ward’s team to be intimidated by tonight’s massive Elland Road crowd.

“We can’t be expecting Carlisle to be affected by the crowd. We want to affect Carlisle as a team and not be relying on the crowd,” said the Scot.
