Celebrating Fortress Brunton

Carlisle United have won 14 league games on the trot at Brunton Park and stand on the verge of automatic promotion to the Championship.

Northampton action
Carlisle United v Northampton Town: Brunton Park, Carlisle. Monday 24 March 2008. United celebrate Marc Bridge- Wilkinson's goal

Now second in League One, they are five points behind leaders Swansea City but with a match in hand. They are five ahead of third-placed Doncaster, who have played a game more than the Cumbrians

During this outstanding season, Carlisle's home league record stands at WON SIXTEEN, drawn one (against Bristol Rovers on September 22) and lost one (to Tranmere on September 8).

During the run, the Blues have scored 32 goals and conceded just eight.

To celebrate Carlisle's amazing sequence, we've put together a slideshow containing pictures from EACH of the 14 matches. Just click the slideshow link at the top of this page.

Since beating Millwall in early October, the Blues have overcome all league rivals to run out at Fortress Brunton. They are:

VICTIMS! Millwall - 4-0 (Oct 6): scorers Joe Garner, Danny Graham

VICTIMS! Gillingham - 2-0 (Oct 20): own goal, Simon Hackney

VICTIMS! Leeds Utd - 3-1 (Nov 3): Hackney, Garner,

VICTIMS! Swindon Town - 3-0 (Dec 4): Joe Anyinsah (2), Garner

VICTIMS! Leyton Orient - 1-0 (Dec 15): Garner

VICTIMS! Hartlepool - 4-2 (Jan 1): Garner (2), Jeff Smith, Hackney

VICTIMS! Port Vale - 3-2 (Jan 5): Luke Joyce, Hackney (2)

VICTIMS! Crewe Alexandra - 1-0 (Jan 19): Garner

VICTIMS! Wallsall - 2-1 (Feb 2): Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, Graham

VICTIMS! Huddersfield Town - 2-1 (Feb 12): Danny Livesey, Graham

VICTIMS! Doncaster Rovers - 1-0 (Feb 23): Graham

VICTIMS! Brighton & Hove Albion - 2-0 (Mar 6): Graham, Livesey

VICTIMS! Luton Town - 2-1 (Mar 11): Livesey, Peter Murphy

VICTIMS! Northampton - 2-0 (Mar 24): Livesey, Bridge-Wilkinson

Still to visit Brunton Park are promotion rivals Nottingham Forest (April 1), Yeovil Town (April 5), current league leaders Swansea City (April 8), Southend (April 19) and Bournemouth (May 3).

The Blues still have some way to go, however, to claim the record for the longest winning home streak. That is held by Bradford Park Avenue who chalked up 25 in Third Division North during 1926-27.

In 'modern' times, the record is held by Liverpool, then in Division 1, who registered 21 successive home wins in 1971/72.

Have your say

Voting for C.U.F.C. player of the year, I think is a bit unfair, please give the award to the whole team as a joint effort, whatever the outcome of this fabulous season,
John Walker.
