Danny Graham is fit for Carlisle United’s trip to Hereford tonight – and boss John Ward has better news on several of his other crocked stars.

Graham has shrugged off the knee injury that required four stitches during Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Peterborough, and the 10-goal top scorer will lead the line at Edgar Street tonight.

Scott Dobie is competing for a place in attack after recovering from an ankle injury while Gary Madine has travelled with the squad despite having two stitches in a knee injury himself at the weekend.

In more encouraging news for the United manager, Chris Lumsdon and Peter Murphy trained with the squad yesterday and while midfielder Lumsdon could still be around a month away from a first-team return, defender Murphy may be in contention for the weekend trip to Colchester.

Captain Paul Thirlwell is also set to return to training on Thursday as he battles back from a calf injury, while Michael Bridges is reportedly making good progress after his knee injury. He has been assessed at his parent club Hull this week but will be back at United tomorrow. Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, meanwhile, remains sidelined for a fortnight with a toe injury.

United, who dropped to 15th on Saturday, are chasing their first win in seven outings tonight at League One’s bottom club.

Victory against Graham Turner’s Bulls could take them back into the top half, but Ward warned: “I’ve known Graham for a long time and he will have his team very organised and difficult to beat.

“But if we show the same attitude we did on Saturday, that’s all I can ask.”
