Keith Curle says Carlisle United are approaching a potentially record-breaking weekend with League Two's top two in their sights - rather than fearing the end of their unbeaten streak.

Victory or a draw at Stevenage would take the Blues' undefeated start to 14 league games - an all-time club record.

Curle accepts United's impressive form has made them a scalp for others in the fourth tier. But he is targeting a further run of results to emulate - and overtake - the other high-fliers.

Curle said: "We respect all our opposition but their mindset is not our concern. Our mindset is we're chasing two teams above us.

"Success is, at the end of the season, finishing top of the table. At the minute there's two teams above us that we've got opportunities to catch.

"If you have a look at the teams above us, Plymouth and Doncaster, they have gone on [runs of] winning five or six games - that gives you the opportunity to get that level of consistency and belief."

Curle's team are currently equal with Paul Simpson's 2004 side on 13 games unbeaten after last weekend's thrilling 3-2 win over Hartlepool.

They have also won their last three league games, though they have mixed team news ahead of the clash with Darren Sarll's 18th-placed Stevenage.

One boost came as it was confirmed that Danny Grainger IS available for the game despite earlier confusion over how many bookings the captain had received.

It had been feared that in-form Grainger was facing suspension from five yellow cards. But Curle yesterday said that the skipper had not been booked in last month's 2-2 draw at Doncaster, contrary to some reports.

The manager said: "At the time I didn't think Danny got booked, but [club secretary] Sarah McKnight has been on every single website, and spoken to the referees' association, just to clarify, double-check and double-check again.

"He's got four [bookings] so he's available."

Curle did, though, say one unnamed member of his squad has suffered a training ground injury that will rule him out for three weeks.

Shaun Miller will also be banned tomorrow following his red card against Hartlepool, while Curle said Jabo Ibehre is continuing to have a hamstring problem assessed ahead of the Hertfordshire trip.

"He's been resting so far - Jabo knows if there's any doubt, to inform the medical staff straight away. But we're hoping he'll be fit and available.

"We've let it settle down and now we have to see if there is any reaction in training."

Curle said fellow strikers - fit-again Charlie Wyke and recent signing Derek Asamoah - are both ready to start tomorrow if needed.

On Asamoah, who made a 12-minute cameo sub appearance against Pools before being substituted himself, Curle added: "Derek's been working extremely hard on his fitness, playing catch-up.

"He's been having microwave training - trying to get two-and-a-half months' training into two-and-a-half weeks."

Of tomorrow's hosts, without loan striker Tyler Walker, Curle said: "They're very competitive, they've got a strength with two strong, competitive centre-backs and two capable midfield players who can handle the football very well.

"I don't think they'll be able to work out what team we'll be playing, but we need to be on our game to a man."

Curle said he was due to speak to midfielder Russell Penn over an approach from Gateshead to extend his loan, which is up next Tuesday.
