Versatile Gary Liddle is hoping he can improve his own form as he looks to play his part in Carlisle United’s promotion bid.

Liddle joined the Blues during the January transfer window – making his United debut in their 1-1 home draw with Morecambe.

In the Blues’ first match in February, Liddle opened his account for Carlisle in a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient at the Matchroom Stadium.

But the versatile 30-year-old, who can play both in defence and midfield, feels there is more to come from himself, as he looks to help the Cumbrians get their play-off bid back on track – starting at Hartlepool today.

“The results have not been ideal,” Liddle admitted.

“We are trying to get a run together, where we can show a little bit of consistency.

“That is going a bit out the window at the moment, which can happen. There are nerves.

“We are all striving to get into the play-offs. It is all about results and form goes out the window a little bit, probably for the rest of the season.

“You just want to get those three points on the board and get to the play-offs, where we want to be.”

Keith Curle’s men looked set to record a second successive win against Notts County last Saturday after ending a seven-game winless streak in their last away game against Yeovil, before conceding twice late on.

And Liddle feels the Blues are not too far away from getting things right again.

“We have not really been outplayed too much,” he said. “It is just silly mistakes that have cost us.

“You saw at Notts County, errors cost us again. We will be looking to cut them out, sooner rather than later. I know we have been saying the same thing for a good few weeks now but it is vital we do that.”

Liddle added he felt this weekend’s double-header, with this afternoon’s trip to Hartlepool followed by a home game against play-off rivals Stevenage, would go a long way to deciding the fate of United’s season.
