Simon Grayson believes Keith Curle and Carlisle United will set his Sunderland side a "tough" examination in the Carabao Cup tomorrow.

The Black Cats manager admits he won't be taking the Blues for granted in the second round clash at Brunton Park.

Grayson said: "It will be a tough test.

"They [Carlisle] had a good victory at the weekend, they did ever so well last year, and I've had a couple of games with Keith in recent years in pre-season.

"He's got a good philosophy. It's a local derby as such, if you can call Carlisle versus Sunderland that, it will be a decent crowd, a decent atmosphere and hopefully we will win the game."

Grayson is planning to make changes to his side after Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Leeds.

Fit-again defender Bryan Oviedo is set to make his first outing of the season, but Brendan Galloway is likely to miss out, while the manager is assessing injury and illness concerns to other players.

Ex-Leeds and Preston boss Grayson said: "It's good to have players coming back into the fold. Bryan will start against Carlisle as will one or two other players.

"There will be changes because we do need to freshen it up but whoever goes into the team have got to stake a claim for a place at Barnsley [in the league]."

Whoever wins tomorrow's tie will find out their next opponents at 4.15am on Thursday.

That is because the EFL are holding the third round draw in Beijing.

Grayson, whose side will be backed by about 1,800 travelling fans at Carlisle, added: "Hopefully we will give them something to cheer about. We want to get through to the next round and hopefully at 4.15am [on Thursday] we are still in the hat."
