Carlisle Utd 1 Barnet 1: Shaun Miller's spectacular goal salvaged a late point for Carlisle United against Barnet against Brunton Park.

The striker beat keeper Craig Ross with a superb overhead volley in the 85th minute.

That prevented a third straight defeat for Keith Curle's side, who had trailed since the eighth minute.

Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro scored Barnet's early opener and United struggled to find a way back until Miller's moment of magic.

Carlisle almost won it at the death but Mark Ellis' close-range header was superbly kept out by Ross.

United, though, moved up a place to 18th after eight league games.

Winger Nicky Adams was left on the bench as Carlisle boss Keith Curle recalled Mike Jones, Reggie Lambe and Hallam Hope for today's home clash.

Adams dropped out of the starting line-up along with Jason Kennedy and Jamie Devitt as Curle again rang the changes after Tuesday's 2-0 defeat at Coventry.

There were home debuts, meanwhile, for keeper Shamal George, James Brown and Kelvin Etuhu.

In front of a 4,141 crowd at Brunton Park, Carlisle got off to the worst possible start.

A flick-on in midfield sent striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro through as he got the better of Ellis and outpaced the United defence.

His first attempt hit the right-hand post, but the frontman managed to put away the rebound from a narrow angle at close range.

United struggled to find a way back in a toiling first-half display.

Despite forcing a number of corners, they forced very few real chances.

Reggie Lambe fired narrowly wide in the 45th minute with Ellis also going close from 25 yards.

Otherwise, United struggled to create, as Barnet again threatened through Akpa Akpro and Jamal Campbell-Ryce.

George saved well early in the second half as Rossi Eames' side looked for a second, Akpa Akpro then shooting over from a narrow angle.

Curle then made changes, sending on Bennett, Adams and then Jason Kennedy as the Blues enjoyed plenty of the ball without forcing many clear-cut chances.

The arrival of the subs helped United keep pressure on the Bees, and a great chance fell Ellis' way from a Miller header, only for the ball to go through the defender's legs.

Miller, though, made his mark with his stunning leveller and both Bennett and Ellis could have won it late on.
