Cumbrian defender Patrick Brough has signed for Carlisle United's League Two rivals Morecambe.

The Silloth man, who was released by the Blues at the end of last season, has agreed a one-year deal with the option of a further year at the Globe Arena.

It means left-back Brough will face United next season, with their first meeting with the Shrimps coming at Brunton Park on November 25.

The 21-year-old made 49 appearances for the Blues after coming through the youth ranks, but fell out of favour under Keith Curle.

He ended last season on loan with Salford City after a previous loan move with Lincoln.

Morecambe manager Jim Bentley said he had heard good things about the young defender.

He told Morecambe's website: "Patrick is only young but we have seen him play a few times and when we made enquiries with people we all know about him they all gave positive replies.

"He has played a good number of games for his age and we are looking forward to working with him."

Former United keeper and coach Tony Caig has joined League One outfit Bury as goalkeeping coach.

Caig, who was also briefly joint caretaker manager after Graham Kavanagh's sacking in 2014, joins manager Lee Clark's backroom staff at Gigg Lane.

"Tony Caig is somebody that I have played with and worked with at Newcastle. He will make the position his own," Clark said.

"Having worked in the same role at Carlisle and Hartlepool, he comes to us with a vast knowledge of the goalkeeping industry and comes with experience."
