Raiders targeted the home of a Carlisle United footballer and stole his father's van during Saturday's game - and then hackers took over his Twitter account.

Carlisle United striker Charlie Wyke has told of a bitter-sweet weekend which saw him score a wonder hat-trick and suffer a raid on his family home.

The 23-year-old fired United to the top of the League Two table with a treble in their win over Mansfield - but that was nowhere near the end of the drama for the Wyke family.

They returned to their family home to find the house had been burgled, his dad's van had been stolen and his Twitter account had been hacked.

Wyke said on the United website: "The Twitter thing was unbelievable.

"We’re guessing that it’s a company from Russia who offer really dodgy services – I can’t go into that any further, I don’t think – and there was nothing I could do at the time to get it back.

"They’d completely stolen my identity, so I got in touch with our media department at the club and they started to work with Twitter on my behalf to get it back.

"Fortunately we’ve been able to do that but it was then a real shock when, within minutes, the same people had tried to hack me again."

He added: "Is this all typical Charlie Wyke stuff or what?"
