Carlisle United start life without Charlie Wyke today with one of four new boys - winger John O'Sullivan - declaring he is here for promotion.

O'Sullivan, who was followed into Brunton Park by Jamie Proctor, George Waring and James Bailey this week, faces Leyton Orient this afternoon (Matchroom Stadium, 3pm) as the new-look Blues seek a first win in five.

The new arrivals must help fill the void left by Wyke, who could make his Bradford debut against Gillingham following his £250,000 transfer.

And ex-Blackburn man O'Sullivan is making little secret of his ambition to help Carlisle into League One.

"That's what everyone here wants to do," the 23-year-old said. "I'm coming to help that.

"It's why I'm here. Hopefully we can go up automatically and then kick on again next season."

Keith Curle's third-placed side are aiming for their first victory of 2017 against the second-bottom Os, who have lost their last four.

United's boss could involve fit-again Mike Jones in his squad while Shaun Brisley is "touch and go" after a knee injury.

But Jason Kennedy (groin) is out - which could give O'Sullivan the chance to make an instant impact.

"I love attacking, that's probably my strong point," said the former Accrington loanee. "I love taking people on and entertaining the crowds.

"But at the end of the day I'll do whatever it takes to win football matches. I'm here now for 18 months and I want to be playing League One next season. To do that you have to work hard and do whatever it takes for the team."

Versatile O'Sullivan, who can play centrally or on the right wing, said he joined Carlisle despite interest from several other clubs.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international said: "One of the big reasons was the game we played against Carlisle with Accrington [last season].

"With Accy that year we were in the game against every team - other than Carlisle. It was just how they played, and how big the pitch is.

"There were options in League One but when I sat down with my family, my girlfriend and my agent, and spoke to the manager here, it sounded like it would suit me with how I play."

O'Sullivan says he is ready to kick-start his career with the Blues after a series of loan moves during his time at Ewood Park.

He added: "It's not too long ago that clubs were trying to buy me from Blackburn. Whatever has happened over the last 12 months has happened, but I've got enough experience from that time now and if I can get back to playing the way I can, I will be good use to the club in the year-and-a-half that I'm here.

"Loans are great when you're 19, 21, but at this stage you want to be part of a team and success there. I'm going to be here next season no matter what happens and I just want to settle down and be part of the club.

"I'm ready. I trained [on Wednesday] and surprised myself a bit. It's been four weeks since I last played a match for Accrington but I've played 20 games this season, and you don't lose that much fitness in that space of time.

"I just can't wait to get going."
