Manager Keith Curle claims he has lined up a player who would be a "phenomenal addition" to Carlisle United next season.

The manager and No2 Lee Dykes were due to meet a transfer target last night having already held talks with three other players.

While United's transfer plans will in part be determined by the outcome of their promotion bid, Curle insisted his targets were exciting.

"One is if we definitely go up, and would be an excellent addition," he said.

"If we are unsuccessful, and don't go up, [he would be] a phenomenal addition."

Curle, though, denied speculation that experienced Colchester striker Chris Porter was back in his sights.

United's manager failed with an attempt to sign the 33-year-old last season but said Porter - who has been offered a new deal by the Essex outfit - was not among the players he has so far spoken to.

He added: "I like the way he plays - a slightly old-fashioned centre-forward who can score goals and is a focal point.

"He is a name that's been on the radar before...I couldn't tempt him last season and I'm not going to offer him any more money this season.

"I think he was happier going south than north last season, although circumstances do change."

Exeter, meanwhile, have launched an investigation after a pitch invasion that followed their 3-2 defeat to Carlisle two weeks ago.

The Grecians have been asked by the Football Association for their observations.

Ticket sales for travelling fans closed at 584 yesterday, with none available on the gate at St James' Park tonight.

United are opening Foxy's Restaurant at Brunton Park from 5.30pm to allow fans to watch the game on a big screen.

The Blues' London-based fans, meanwhile, are invited to watch the game at The Horseshoe, 24 Clerkenwell Close, a venue arranged by the London Branch supporters' club.

The game is being televised live behind Sky Sports 2's red button option.
