Decision time is looming for Alex McQueen - with Keith Curle claiming the right-back has one more week to convince him he is worth a deal with Carlisle United.

The Blues boss says he is trying to arrange another reserve game to assess McQueen.

And Curle said he is getting closer to a decision on the 21-year-old's future.

Curle said: "Alex is coming to the latter stages of his introduction back into the club.

"He's been doing ok in training and has integrated very well in the group.

"I'd probably say [a decision will be made] at the end of next week on whether he has been able to force my hand or convince me he'd be an addition to the club."

McQueen, a free agent, returned to train with United two months after leaving the club.

Curle, meanwhile, says ex-Chelsea trialist Kevin Wright has yet to return to Brunton Park as he recovers from injury.

The manager also says he wants United to be "pro-active" in the January transfer market in a bid to consolidate their promotion push.

The Blues faced some criticism for failing to strengthen in the last winter window.

Curle said: "I've had a conversation with the stakeholders in the club about being proactive in January.

"Are there finances available, do we need to shuffle our pack to create some finances?

"Cup revenue could potentially help as well. But we have to be proactive.

"If you look at the teams who were successful last season, they were very proactive in January, bringing in additional qualities to the squad. Are we looking to improve? Most certainly we are."
