Keith Curle says Carlisle United must be realistic about the risk of losing some of their top players in January.

The manager's warning comes as he names Charlie Wyke as the latest member of his side who he expects to be the subject of a transfer-window bid.

Curle has already claimed that Mark Gillespie and Tom Miller are likely to be on the radar of other clubs.

And while the Blues boss insisted promotion-chasing Carlisle do not need to sell any of their stars, he claims it is pointless pretending their resolve won't be tested.

"We are a business, an organisation that needs funding," Curle said.

"We're not actively looking to sell any of our players, but we know good players, when they are playing in a successful team, are going to attract attention.

"We don't shy away from it or try and mask it. If people come in, we've got good valuations on those players.

"If someone comes in and wants to progress somebody's career, with a financial package, we don't stand in anyone's way.

"It's very important players get rewards that their performances are meriting."

Wyke, who has scored three in United's last two games, is Carlisle's top scorer with nine goals.

His tally included United's opener at Grimsby on Tuesday night.

And Curle believes the 23-year-old has the quality to play at a higher level.

The United boss said: "Charlie could score goals in two divisions above as well.

"His understanding of the game is improving.

"He is the best centre-forward we've got to sit as a deep-lying centre-forward with the physical presence, work ethic and mentality [that role needs].

"It's a graveyard shift when you've got to go tracking midfielders and then go and be a centre-forward. He does it very well and that typifies his hard work.

"A lot of people might not notice the work he does, but I do, and Charlie gets his rewards.

"I'll be surprised if someone doesn't come in and test our arm with Charlie in January.

"He's got everything you'd want from a centre-forward. He's mobile, brave, strong, and has good technique and understanding."

Curle has previously said he wants to be "proactive" with his recruitment in January to bolster United's promotion push.
