Keith Curle says he expects confidence to grow at Carlisle United now the Blues are back to winning ways.

Ahead of tonight's home clash with Stevenage, the manager admitted that only victories can put his squad in a more upbeat frame of mind.

Saturday's 5-0 triumph at Crewe was timely after five winless games and Curle now hopes for a better run of results.

"We've had a stuttering start, and as a club we need wins to build confidence," he said.

"A confident group of players is what we're all looking for.

"Things won't always go our way but people haven't got off the bus - the players, the majority of the supporters and the hierarchy have all kept that belief.

"We've had a slap in the face [recently] but we're working and prepared to work very hard. Any failings won't be for the lack of effort."

Curle has not ruled out making changes tonight even though United recorded their biggest league win for 16 months at the weekend.

The Blues boss says he will always be open-minded on team selection depending on how he feels the opposition can be overcome.

Curle, though, says he was encouraged by how his players adapted to a different system at Crewe as United's 4-3-2-1 formation worked well.

"We've got players I know can do a job, depending on the system and formation and how I think we can cause [Stevenage] problems," he added.

Jason Kennedy could be involved in tonight's squad after being rested at the weekend.

Stevenage will include frontman Matt Godden, who fired 21 goals last season.

Jack King could again miss out as he returns from injury.
