Loan goalkeepers Jack Bonham and Shamal George are both "fantastic prospects", according to Carlisle United manager Keith Curle.

The two young keepers look set to battle it out for the No.1 spot at Brunton Park this season, with youth product Morgan Bacon the third senior shot-stopper on United's books.

Liverpool man George, 19, missed Carlisle's extra-time Carabao Cup victory over Fleetwood in midweek while he was on an England training camp this week.

But he has since returned to training and is expected to be back in the squad for today's clash as he looks to move ahead of Brentford loanee Bonham in the pecking order.

"He has walked back in the building with his Liverpool tag and his England tag, and a big smile on his face. The lad is in a very good place at the minute," Curle said on George.

"He has come in with a big reputation and some great big names he can drop in, in that changing room which is fantastic. He has got to earn the right to get into the team.

"I think the exciting part is I have two goalkeepers that, in my opinion, are fantastic prospects that have signed this summer. They have joined in with the ethos of the football team and the football club.

"They have joined in with Simon [Tracey, goalkeeping coach]. They are being trained and they are being coached, I think that is the big thing. Part of the fundamentals that Simon does with them, they can take back with them to Liverpool and Brentford.

"They can take into the England environment as well because it's basics of what is needed to be a league goalkeeper and it doesn't matter if it's in League Two, League One or the Championship."

As United look to put their first league points of the season on the board at the Cambs Glass Stadium, Blues boss Curle will come up against a familiar face in the opposition dugout in Shaun Derry.

Carlisle's manager worked with Derry at QPR and Crystal Palace.

Curle said: "I know their manager. I have been part of management teams that have signed him twice. I have had good success with him in our teams.

"He has good values, good fundamentals and a good desire. He won't like losing games. Likewise, neither do I."
