Jerry Yates has apologised to his manager and team-mates for the red card which sees him suspended for Carlisle United's next two games.

The Rotherham loanee must sit out the home matches against Stevenage and Grimsby after swearing at the officials in last weekend's win at Bury.

United boss John Sheridan said: "He's going miss two games and it's threatening his place in the side - that's how he'll learn, if anything.

"He'll know not to do it again.

"He was stupid in what he said, he knows that and he's apologised to myself and everyone else. He knows he's let himself down more than anyone else.

"He's worked his socks off for us since he's been here. But someone's gonna come in now, and whoever I play, hopefully we get two positive results and it gives me a problem when I'm picking the team for Oldham [next Saturday] when Jerry will be available again."

Sheridan, meanwhile, says Mike Jones is available after recovering from his hamstring injury.

He suggested, though, that the experienced midfielder may not be rushed back into the squad to face Stevenage this weekend.

"He's been out for a while, so I don't think [he'll be involved on] Saturday, but he's sharp and a naturally fit lad.

"He's only trained this week, and he's looked alright in training. I'm looking towards possibly Grimsby or Oldham next week.

"It's a boost for himself [to be back]. Unfortunately he got the injury when he was in the team.

"He's an experienced player. We've got a lot of midfield players, and he just adds to what we've already got in there.

"He's a welcome addition and it's good to have him back."

Danny Grainger, though, remains sidelined after Sheridan said the skipper suffered a "little niggle" to the calf injury which has kept him out for a month.

*Fans' group CUOSC say they are co-ordinating United's search for a new supporters' liaison officer, following the recent departure of Nigel Dickinson.

A statement from the supporters' trust said: "At the CUSG [Carlisle United Supporters' Groups] meeting on Monday representatives of the club and fan groups discussed the SLO situation.

"It was agreed that supporter reps would work up the job profile. This will be done as soon as possible with a view to finding people who may be interested.

"The process, is being coordinated by CUOSC, and is intended to result in a service and a resource which fans find really valuable."
