Defender Macaulay Gillesphey has rejoined Carlisle on a half-season deal from Newcastle United, subject to the completion of all paperwork.
The 20-year-old first signed for the Blues on a short-term loan deal last September, before his loan deal was extended until the end of the season following a string of impressive displays.
Gillesphey's contract at St James' Park was extended earlier this month.
But boss Keith Curle admitted he would like to take Gillesphey for the 2016/17 season and he has now got his man.
"Macaulay is a young man who I think is going to have a very bright future," Curle told the United website. "It's excellent that we can be part of his development. We're forging links with a fantastic football club in Newcastle United and Peter Beardsley.
"It shows they're happy with the development of their players when they come to us."
