Former Carlisle United loan star Jordan Pickford is poised to become the most expensive British goalkeeper of all time.

The Sunderland keeper, who made 18 appearances for the Blues in the 2013/14 campaign, looks set for a £30million move to Everton.

The Toffees today had a bid accepted for the 23-year-old, who is currently in Poland with England Under-21s.

If the move goes through it will comfortably eclipse the existing record of £10m spent by Southampton to sign Fraser Forster from Celtic in 2014.

It would also be a club record fee for Everton.

Pickford, tipped as a future England No1, was one of the rare bright spots for Sunderland during their relegation from the Premier League last season.

It was Carlisle who gave the shot-stopper only his second taste of first-team football, as he joined the Blues on loan in February 2014 after a spell on loan with Burton

Signed to replace the injured Mark Gillespie, he featured regularly in United's run-in as they failed to avoid League One relegation under Graham Kavanagh.

His spell at Carlisle included six clean sheets.

United's Under-18s, meanwhile, have added a Sunderland keeper to their squad for next season.

Regan Ward has joined the first-year youth ranks, along with a striker from Newcastle, Belchior Papa.

They join six local-based first-year youth players who have come through the club's academy.

They are Josh Dixon, Jay Kelly, Keighran Kerr, Liam McCarron, Liam Brockbank and Ceiran Casson.
