Shaun Miller says Carlisle United must get back to last season's never-say-die ways as they again try to boost their campaign at Colchester today.

The Blues are seeking a better run of form after the opening 12 games of the season have left them 16th.

And striker Miller says the mentality in the first half of last season when United felt unbeatable is what they must try to regain.

"The games have been so tight and it's just about keeping that belief - that's the main thing," the frontman said.

"We had a great never-say-die attitude last season and we need to keep that - the belief that we will score and we will win.

"It is very small margins in games at the moment but we need to start putting those small margins in our favour.

"All through the first-half of last season they were also close games but we were winning them by the odd goal, or scoring late, or coming from behind.

"We felt like we couldn't be beaten - that's what we need to get back to. A good result at Colchester could really get us going and then the aim has to be to get a few back-to-back."

Miller could be joined among Keith Curle's striker options today by Steven Rigg after the Cumbrian rejoined the club on a short-term deal.

Major changes, though, are unlikely, with Gary Liddle likely to continue at the back as Tom Parkes continues his suspension.

Miller is keen for United to achieve a third straight away win in Essex today but insists the Blues are also capable of turning their poor home form around.

"We've had two good away wins with clean sheets and we're going to Colchester to get a third," he said.

"But there's no trepidation from any of the players going into home games. We want to give the crowd as much to shout about as we can.

"We want results at home to change as quickly as possible. We want it to be a place where people don't want to come. We don’t want it to be a place where people say, 'Oh, Carlisle have lost at home again'.

"Every game we go into we feel we can win, home or away. We feel we should be higher in the league. Results haven't shown that but we believe we will get back to where we should be."

Miller's stunning strike against Barnet was yesterday named League Two's goal of the month for September.

The 30-year-old said: "It's the first time I've ever been nominated for anything like that so I'm delighted to get any sort of individual trophies or accolades.

"I was following the voting day by day and there was always a nice little cushion there. I'm delighted and I want to thank everyone who did vote. It means a lot.

"I've probably watched it a good hundred-odd times! Me and my little boy love watching it back. It's one to be proud of and look back on. Any goals out of nothing like that are ones you hold highly. It's got to be right up there."
