Carlisle United defender Mark Ellis has been named in the Carabao Cup team of the round for round one.

Ellis, who spent the second half of last season out on loan at National League play-off winners Forest Green Rovers, started the tie and played the full 120 minutes in the 2-1 extra-time win over Fleetwood.

The panel selecting the team said: "Ellis was key at the back, putting his body on the line to help the Blues into Round Two."

Also included in the side are Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer, Norwich's prospect James Maddison and Birmingham striker Che Adams.

United's midweek win earned them their place in the second round, where they have been drawn at home to Sunderland.

"Sunderland are a fantastic football club and we all have to look forward to hosting them," Carlisle manager Keith Curle said on the draw.

"They are a Premier League club in every way, other than their current status, and I'm sure they'll be working hard to put that right.

"They have a new manager [Simon Grayson] and a new management regime who will be demanding very high standards and I have no doubt that they'll come to us determined to do things properly."

Sunderland boss Grayson told their club website: "Carlisle will be a tough game for us and I know Keith [Curle] well.

"They’ve got some good players and we’ll go there after a busy schedule so at least we don’t have to travel a long way which is a big plus for us."
