Keith Curle has promised to make a quick decision on the mystery trialist who is training with his Carlisle United squad.

The Blues manager has offered an extended stint to one of the players who featured in last week's reserve friendly against Burnley.

Curle is staying tight-lipped on the identity and even the position of the contract hopeful.

But he said he will make his mind up this week. Curle said: "He's going to be training with us [today], probably with another training session on the Thursday, and the decision will be made on Thursday when we've had an opportunity to have another look at him with the squad.

"That's fair to the lad. We've got good intelligence and information on him, and now it's how he fits into the dynamics of exactly what I'm looking for."

Former Blues defender Tom Aldred, meanwhile, says Blackpool want to catch United in the League Two promotion race.

Aldred captained the Seasiders to Saturday's 4-1 win, and although Blackpool are 11 points adrift of third-placed United he said: "We want to catch Carlisle. Credit to what they've done this season but we want to be up there with them."

On Saturday's game the defender added on Blackpool's official website: "Carlisle are doing well, they've got good home form, but I thought with our pace and power we were just too strong for them.

"The game plan was to get the ball wide and put balls in the box. We knew it was a nice, big pitch, which suited us. We put balls in the box and [Brad] Pottsy was fortunate enough to get on the end of one."

Seasiders boss Gary Bowyer added: "I like Keith Curle and the way he has got Carlisle going, but we were excellent."

United's youth team were beaten 3-2 by Burnley with Jack Egan on target twice.
