Charlie Wyke struck a 97th minute winner to cap an incredible late fightback for Carlisle United.

The striker scored his second of the game deep into injury-time to clinch a dramatic comeback win for Keith Curle's side.

United seemed to be heading for a second straight defeat with just two minutes of normal time left.

But sub Shaun Miller headed an equaliser before Wyke's last-gasp goal.

Sub Jamie Devitt was sent off in the final seconds, while Exeter had a 100th-minute goal disallowed as keeper Christy Pym fouled Mark Gillespie as he bundled the ball in.

Another melodramatic afternoon at Brunton Park saw Exeter lead in the first minute through Reuben Reid before Wyke levelled nine minutes later.

Lee Holmes then put the Grecians back in front early in the second half before the Blues' grandstand finish, which keeps them second in League Two.

Reid gave Exeter the lead after just 40 seconds, getting behind Shaun Brisley and then sliding the ball under Gillespie from close range.

It was the worst possible start for second-placed United against Paul Tisdale's second-bottom Grecians.

But Exeter's lead lasted only nine minutes, as the recalled Wyke arrived in space to head home Danny Grainger's deflected cross at the Waterworks End.

That was the last of the goals in an even first half in which Exeter gave Carlisle their share of problems before the Blues improved towards the end.

Ollie Watkins tested Gillespie, while Grainger made a vital block to deny Pierce Sweeney as Exeter opened Carlisle up with their passing and movement.

Gillespie saved a Holmes free-kick, while United's chances late in the half saw Luke Joyce head over, Brisley have a finish blocked at close range and Mike Jones volley just over the bar from outside the box, as winger Nicky Adams starting causing the Grecians some problems.

Holmes then put the visitors back ahead, arriving in space to slot home Reid's cross.

United then made hard work of fighting back, with sub Liam McAlinden hitting the post with a header for the visitors.

But United's pressure eventually told, and after sub Miller had a goal ruled out for offside, the striker made no mistake with a clinical header from Adams' inswinging cross.

Devitt was then booked for dissent, before Wyke landed the winner.

Sub Reggie Lambe cut infield, Adams dinked the ball over the defence, and after Wyke miskicked whilst in space, he made no mistake with his second finish, drilling it low past Pym.

Devitt then saw red after a foul on the United right, with Pym coming up to compete for the late free-kick, his disallowed goal being followed by a melee in the Blues box which saw the visiting keeper booked.

Brisley returned to the Carlisle United defence in place of Macaulay Gillesphey, with Wyke starting in place of Miller.
